Biography

I'd always been a little too interested in music for it to become anything other than an all-consuming quest for the perfect song. I'm a long way from where I was born, Belfast in Northern Ireland, and currently reside in the beautiful city of Canterbury, Kent. Taking an interest in singing from a young age, I began to take it much more seriously around 15 years old, but had begun songwriting much earlier than that - it has and always will be a wonderful form of release for me.

Moving to England, I began exploring songwriters' venues in London (such as The Bedford in Balham, and Monkeychews in Camden), lugging my keyboard with me in a small Corsa down the M25 for a 15-minute slot of creative freedom. I sought more. After taking a degree in Commercial Music and exploring the wonderful depths of songwriting even further, a collaboration with three fantastic musicians resulted in the formation of Controller, a band that introduced a rock edge to my writing and performing that is likely to always stay with me. Now focused on my solo material, you can still spot the girl-on-the-piano as well as the rock diva in there...

In terms of influences, its always been an eclectic mix of everything and anything that takes my fancy. Ash, Blur, Delta Goodrem, Lucie Silvas and Eva Cassidy have all made their mark, as well as the genius of film composers, namely Thomas Newman and the mighty James Horner. I'm a sucker for a melody, which has both its advantages and disadvantages, but you can be sure that anything I write will all come down to a tune that will hopefully buzz around your head for a while.

This year two of my songs reached the Finals of the UK Songwriting Contest ('Worth It' and 'Single Best Mistake'), as well as being featured on BBC Radio 6 Music (Jon Holmes show), BBC Radio Kent and Belfast's Cool FM.

Immersing myself in writing and performing, you can always be guaranteed that I'm working on another song or show. A new musical by Ethan Lewis Maltby, for which I have written lyrics, is also on the cards...
