Biography
In a time where the UK music scene is becoming more and more dominated by artists, songwriters and producers conforming to the current fad of manufactured Pop acts, along comes a real breath of fresh air under the guise of '45 Flat'. '45 Flat' consist of two extremely talented individuals, namely 'Warren Meyers' and 'Paul Cope'. Both still in their twenties, Warren and Paul have been best of friends now for over half of their lives and have been on a musical journey together throughout the last twelve years. Along the way '45 Flat' have been inspired by acts such as De La Soul, Chemical Bros, Soul to Soul, Beastie Boys, Basement Jaxx, Prodigy, PM Dawn, Run DMC, Fast Eddie and Stevie Wonder as well as being extremely passionate about the House music scene which has opened up the path for their 'Hip House' collaborations with Producers like Pablo Fernandez, The Young Punx, Digital Dog and Soulshaker. Although this sounds like a predominantly Urban line up, two words that best describe '45 Flat' are 'Non Conformist', after all they have taken inspiration from every form of music that has captured their imagination throughout their lives, be it rock, jazz, pop, R&B, Dance or Hip Hop, you can hear all these influences in their music. 45 Flat' have written, produced and performed each track on their debut album and have used featured artists to spice things up on a few of the tracks.
The tracks themselves suit different moods and everyone seems to have their own favourites. Some of the tracks are laid back grooves with soulful vocals and others are much more jump up, with a cool blend of Rap and almost boy band sounding vocals. The production is second to none with tight, live sounding drums, funky baselines and intricate edits and effects that perfectly compliment the slick and imaginative vocals. The boys are also born performers and have been entertaining crowds now for the last 10 years as MCs, DJ's and when performing live Pa's of some of the own record releases, mainly through the UK Garage period. WHAT ELSE? '45 Flat' also work under the name 'The Lost Boys'. 'The Lost Boys' is the name they use when writing and producing for other artists and due to this, the boys are fast becoming sought after for their Top Line ability and slick production skills. At present 'The Lost Boys' are working at 'The Vineyard' with some of the biggest acts in the UK. They wrote on the Angel City Album for Ministry Of Sound and have had various Dance chart No1s this year including the current No1 with 'Soulshaker'. These boys seem to have got it all and could quite easily be the Uks answer to 'The Neptunes' and whereby 'The Neptunes' have got 'Nerd', 'The Lost Boys' have got '45 Flat'. '45 Flat' look set to make a big impact through 2007 which is definitely a bonus for the UK music scene.
